A year after graduating high school, 贾勒特威尔逊 realized the lack of opportunity to move up in his welding job didn’t lineup with his long-term goals.

He started classes at St. Charles Community College in the spring of 2009. “I chose SCC because of the price,贾勒特说. “I paid for my own college education, so that was a big deal to me.”

With the support of the SCC community, Jarrett was able to earn his Associate of 艺术 degree and transfer to the University of Missouri, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance.

“My experience at SCC was great,” he said. “My accounting instructors were awesome and the campus was so convenient and clean.” 

Jarrett credits his smooth transition from SCC to MU to his SCC academic advisor. “When I transferred to Mizzou, I had already completed 70 hours, 因此在学业上, I was set up well for the transition.”

After having such a positive experience with his SCC academic advisor, Jarrett said he knew how important it would be to do the same at University of Missouri.

他是对的. A recommendation letter from his new advisor helped Jarrett earn a position as a summer welcome leader where he was able to make friends and network.

“最后, I graduated with not one credit less important than another in four and a half years – including a semester working an internship at Boeing,贾勒特说. He took a full-time position as a procurement agent-buyer right after his graduation and now works in financial operations at Boeing.

“Moral of the story, I know I could not have done it without the help of my great academic advisors,贾勒特说. “The plan worked and all the hard work is paying off.”
